About Joie

Joie Cruz is a founder, leader, and impact entrepreneur. She is the Founder of Limitless Lab, a social innovation company that aims to help people and organizations innovate and create impact using creativity, design, and technology.

She holds a degree in Development Communication. When she was 21 years old and fresh out of college, she took a job at a Philippine government agency where she discovered that despite all the red tape and bureaucracy in the public sector, there are many opportunities for innovation.

After using design thinking to prototype the right career path for herself—transitioning from the animation sector to media, and then academia—she found her true purpose in social entrepreneurship. Through entrepreneurship, she was able to integrate her multiple passions: social development, design, and technology.

In 2018, she founded Limitless Lab, a company that does just that—combining design, technology, and entrepreneurship to create social impact. Since then, Limitless Lab has trained thousands of people, mostly public servants, on how to use design thinking to innovate and solve complex problems. The company has also co-designed various social innovations with both local and international organizations in the development sector.

Joie is listed as one of Tatler Asia’s Gen T Honourees, recognized for the impactful work she has done at Limitless Lab. In 2022, she coached Butuan City into becoming a Grand Prize Winner of the 2021 Global Mayors Challenge by Bloomberg Philanthropies, helping them win a total of USD $1 million in seed funding for their innovation project.

Her passion for social innovation and entrepreneurship extends beyond the walls of Limitless Lab. She is a regular speaker and facilitator at international conferences, universities, and corporate events, promoting the power of design thinking and social entrepreneurship. She has also ventured into other industries with the creation of Limitless Foods, an innovative food company that aims to make plant-based food more accessible and affordable for Filipinos, and Limitless Her, a non-profit initiative that aims to help women entrepreneurs develop self-confidence, self-awareness, leadership skills, financial literacy, and provide access to funding opportunities.

She ultimately believes in the “limitless” potential of people to transform challenges into opportunities and to create ripples of change.

"The best thing about being an impact entrepreneur is having the freedom to shape a better future not just for yourself, but for the next generations."

My Projects

I have always wondered why "projects" are called "projects". More than its Latin origin, I think projects are called that because we use them to project something into the future - to turn a vision into reality.

I have several social innovation projects. Some are through Limitless Lab, while some are personal initiatives I created to address the social issues I see around me. What's great about living the design thinking principles on a daily basis is you are able to learn and contribute to any industry or field, as long as you know how the innovation process works.

Dream, Girls!: Empowerment and Aspiration Workshop for Young Women

As a product of teenage pregnancy myself, I've always wanted to start something that would help guide and support young girls and women facing similar challenges. Dream, Girls!: Empowerment and Aspiration Workshop aims to nurture self-esteem and self-worth, encourage ambition formation, and provide mentorship to young girls and women.

Bayanivation: Local Government Innovation Program

Bayanivation is a nationwide program that aims to spark civic innovation and digital transformation in local governance in the Philippines. Using design thinking, Bayanivation inspires and influences public servants to talk and engage with their constituents, especially the youth, solving community problems.
